Homemade West Virginia Gourds

By: A. Cheryl Brown

Age: 40

Hand painted gourds by a woman in West Virginia, she does amazing work. There are many different styles such as primitive, seasonal, birdhouses, fruits, various houses, ornaments, seeded, etc. She also makes them for family and friends who enjoy having them. Her family had no idea what a gourd was until she became fascinated with them. When she first started we were all amazed by her work. Cheryl had been involved with many different arts and crafts before. Her dream would be to become a successful gourd artist which we believe will happen.

She discovered gourds from family friends who grew them. Before January of 2010 none of us knew a gourd existed. Cheryl started out with 14 gourds and now has painted or seeded 100 of them! Now we are all a part of a gourd madness. Is the world ready for gourd madness? If so help a starving artist by purchasing your own one of a kind piece of gourd art.
